Ozempic Breakfast Ideas: 12 High Protein Options From a Dietitian
Jul 17, 2026
The best Ozempic breakfast ideas are small, protein-rich and easy to face with no appetite: high-protein yoghurt bowls, eggs in gentle forms, and milk-based smoothies all deliver 20 to 30 g of protein in a volume you can actually finish. Breakfast is the meal most women on GLP-1 medications skip, and skipping it is how protein targets quietly fail by dinnertime.
I'm an Accredited Practising Dietitian. These are the breakfasts I actually recommend, using foods from any Australian supermarket.
Why breakfast matters more on a GLP-1 medication
Your daily protein target does not shrink because your appetite did; most women need 90 g or more, and the maths only works if breakfast contributes. Skip it and you need two 45 g meals later, on an appetite that struggles with 25. Spread across three meals and a snack, the same target feels slightly easier. Your personal number is in how much protein you need on Ozempic.
Morning is also when appetite is often at its lowest on semaglutide, so these ideas are deliberately small, soft and low-odour.
The 12 breakfasts
Yoghurt-based (no cooking, cold, gentle)
- High-protein Greek yoghurt (Chobani, YoPro or supermarket own-brand High Protein version) with berries and a spoon of muesli. About 20g protein (you can also stir in unflavoured protein powder to boost the protein content without adding more volume).
- Yoghurt parfait: layer yoghurt, tinned peaches in juice, crushed Weet-Bix. About 20g.
- Protein custard pot with sliced banana. About 15 to 20g; add a milky coffee to top it up.
Egg-based (compact, savoury, filling) 4. Two boiled eggs with a slice of grainy toast and vegemite. About 16 g; add a cheese slice for about 20g. 5. Two-egg omelette with spinach and a little feta. About 18 to 20g. 6. Scrambled eggs with cottage cheese folded through, on half a slice of sourdough. About 25 g.
Smoothies (for the mornings solid food is a no) 7. The standard: 250 ml milk, 30g protein powder, half a frozen banana. About 35 g. 8. The gentle one: milk, vanilla protein powder, ice, nothing else. Sip slowly. About 30g. 9. Coffee protein shake: cold milk, protein powder, shot of espresso. Breakfast and coffee in one. About 30g.
Toast-plus (when you want normal food) 10. Ricotta and honey on one slice of grainy toast. About 12 g; pair with a latte for 20g. 11. Cottage cheese and tomato on toast, cracked pepper. About 15 to 18g. 12. Smoked salmon and cream cheese on half a bagel. About 15g.
How to use this list
Pick two or three and rotate; decision fatigue kills breakfast faster than nausea does. Keep one smoothie option always stocked for rough mornings. If even these feel like too much, halve them, but eat something with protein rather than nothing. A 15g breakfast beats a 0g one every single day.
Mid-morning hungry-ish? That is what a protein snack is for; ideas in high protein snacks Australia.
The pattern behind the list
Every one of these follows the same rules: 15g of protein minimum, small volume, minimal cooking smell, and available at Aldi, Woolworths or Coles. Those rules come from the wider eating framework in what to eat on Ozempic, which is worth reading if you have not built your overall structure yet.

FAQ
Should I eat breakfast on Ozempic if I'm not hungry? Yes, in most cases. Appetite is no longer a reliable signal on a GLP-1 medication, and your protein target needs the meal. Keep it small and gentle; a yoghurt or half a smoothie counts. Structure replaces hunger as the trigger.
Is skipping breakfast bad on Ozempic? It is not dangerous, but it usually means failing your daily protein target, because fitting 90g into two suppressed-appetite meals rarely works. Chronic protein shortfall is the road to muscle loss, fatigue and hair shedding.
What is the highest protein breakfast for a small appetite? A milk-based protein smoothie: 30 to 35 g of protein in a glass you can sip over half an hour. It is the single most useful tool for low-appetite mornings and dose-increase weeks.
Can I just have coffee for breakfast? Make it a milky one and add food when you can. A latte gives around 8 g of protein, which is better than black coffee alone, but it will not carry the meal by itself. Pair it with a yoghurt or boiled egg.
